Dropping $160K At Avenue

More from Avenue, where scores of commenters are reporting that one customer racked up a $160,000 bar bill last Wednesday night, rivaling Mike Ashley's run at Pink Elephant last year or Jay Z's July 4th night in Vegas. But as is their habit, no one from the venue is speaking, giving the crazy mofo who dropped this much cash on booze a brief moment of anonymity.

UPDATE: The bottle buyer struck again last night, with a LB telling us "That same guy from avenue last week dropped another big one last night. Id say around the same, if not more... He was buying Patron Silver and Cristal.. i couldn't even count how many. But i was there for the 178,000 dollar night and it was definitely more bottles overall." Call us crazy, but this LB sounds more like the GM.

Plenty of people know plenty of people who work at Avenue, and these rumors of big table nights are very real. Still it's rare for these $100k plus bills. There have been several $30k plus buys. Also, the Tuesday often looks empty because Wass combined with the Beatrice guys make it by far the toughest door in the city. But if you look at who is in the venue--like, say an Olivier Zahm--it's a virtual nerve center for the nightlife-fashion-arts nexus. And upstairs on Tuesdays, no outside promoters are being paid, save the Paul/Bea team. A few guys get comped bottles, however. No matter, the Tuesday at Avenue is still the most exclusive party going in town. And anyone notice that, since Ave opened in June, Oak has seen a major boost? It feels like all the people Wass denies, which is like 2-300 people a night, are popping over to the more lax door at Oak.

dude guy is FULL OF SHIT... Matt Assante AND Skater Eric work AND GET PAID every Tuesday night... EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT... Stop with the Strategic ass kissing....

1st. ONE guy spent 150k.
2nd. List of promoters working there CONSTANTLY; SKATER ERIC, MATT ASSANTE, RICARDO, MATT MIKE AND RYAN, Paul and the Beatrice crew on tuesdays and thursdays... If you idiots had any idea about who actually WORKS in the industry, maybe you would all realize that these guys all worked in Marquee for the last 4 years and will continue to work. How do you think that these model girls show up to these places? to look at Noah's bald sweaty head? Same idiot goes and pops off at Marquee and Avenue all the time, and they consistently get BENJI to spend 50k there. Bang for the buck, they do ring A LOT of money; but please don't insult people's intelligence by saying that there aren't promoters at Avenue, or any venue for that matter. Only place in that can lay claim to that WAS Rose Bar but that was three years ago (Nur and Frank Roberts as in house management was totally different then paying guys to bring models)... the rest use promoters... nuff said..

I want a comp bottle! Or better yet I want to drag that big money spender, mr 150K, over to the projects not too far away and jack his ass! One way to end your tough times.

September 3, 2009 at 05:34PM | Unregistered CommenterI just farted

Give the guy who spent 150k and everyone who kissed his ass and everyone who gives a shit a bullet between their eyes. What nonsense to glorify this behavior with the economy as bad as it is.

This guy sounds cool. yah right. since when is the coolness of a night spot judged in on some anti social, loser asian financial guy. thats NOT cool that is lame. I am sure he would of not even got near the place if he was not forced to spend money. The big question for Avenue is how is there non- whale business. NON existence. Same old business model. give everything away for free, no bar business, and charging losers that obvious do not belong in the scene a shit load of money so they can pretend to be cool, WOW this place is really cool.

it's def possible that this guy spent this amount, especially if he ordered certain bottles that weren't on the menu that are more high end, i remember when cain reopened as cain luxe they had the millennium cristal methusaleh for $40k...

also, back in september '08 walking into pink when mike ashley spent $250k... everyone in the club had a bottle of cristal, and was getting sprayed, and no one seemed to care because they all had $900 bottles of champagne in their hands... he single handedly cleared out the inventory of both pink and mansion in one night on a warm september wednesday...

Happy for Avenue. But I'm just wondering what's going through the guy's head that's dropping that kind of money. Seriously, I don't care how much money you have, I could figure out something better to do with $160K... and I'm not talking charity. Just saying, it gets to a point where you're kind of embarrasing yourself.

@whatever - why do you reference the guy's ethnicity? this is 2009 buddy....get with it. if you have a problem with someone's ethnicity, and are living here in new york, let alone AMERICA, maybe you should go back to where YOU came from.....or are you so lost in not knowing your ancestral roots that you don't even know where you came from?

i think this post may have prompted TWO tables at 1oak last night to order approximately 16 bottles of cristal each. LET THE CRISTAL BOTTLE BUYING WARS BEGIN!!! whoever manages to empty their bank accounts first wins! but loses in life

September 4, 2009 at 02:33PM | Unregistered Commenteri know cuz I f*** promoters

Yea.. Ummm Nobody was buying the cris at 1-Oak... And They can't afford to have that many on hand anyway- I know frank- you try.... SO hard.....
And I'm sure the IRS would Love to know how much avenue is making...

It is amazing how much information is out on the net, I am impressed with the up to the minute and accurate statements above in this chat thread about the big time bottle buyer and the promoters at Avenue........ and the other chat thread about Eugene, Mark and Michael's new place opening this week.....

Usually it is the vendors like Empire and Southern who spread the gossip of who is doing what at what lounge / club / restaurant, because they are the ones delivering the liquor...... they are the first to spread rumors of lounges doing well (buying lots of cases Cristal & DP) and those having financial troubles because the bill was not paid within 30 days "Like the Griffin Rumor"....... but on Down by the Hipster there are sources that must be a mixture of owners, management, doormen, bottle hosts, promoters, djs, and staff.... because the accurate gossip and many times confidential financial information about the lounges on this blog is mind boggling...... Avenue, 1Oak,Rose Bar, Griffin, Eldridge, Griffin, etc etc and RIP Lounges - (Beatrice Inn / Merkato 55 / Bijoux)....

My all time favorite is when the Pink Elephant Hamptons "Actual Bankruptcy Papers" filed with the courts was published on the net - for all to see, who the investors where, their home addresses, what was owed, what was spent, tax returns and so on.........

Yes the bottle buyers has been a well known bottle buyer like Mike Ashley for the past several years, His M.O. is lots of single bottles of 750ml Cristal, starting out with 10 at a time then increasing the amounts to 10 / 20 / or more as the night goes on...... with the added basics of Grey Goose, Patron Platinum and Johnny Walker Blue Label on the Table....... He has been at every club in NYC for the past two years.....Everyone in the Biz knows him, a nice guy who happens to have a very large bank account and enjoys buying bottles.....end of story......

My point is too much access to information is making the Lounges & Clubs in Manhattan "Life Span" shorter and shorter and shorter....... jesus christ ! Abe & Arthur's / Simyone is not even open, and rendering are out, comments, predictions what will happen, who invested what and the name of the contractor who installed the toilet in the third stall from the left and what he had for lunch today...... it is getting out of hand.

Remember the days just a few years ago when place opened, you heard from a friend who was there the week before that is was good, so you decided to check it out, the place would be under the radar and cool for a year, maybe even two, then over time word gets out and the masses learn about it..... but at least the place had a chance to operate and last for more than three years......

I am confident many on this chat thread will sharpen their tools of "Sharp Wit" and rip me a new A-hole......I accept this so feel free to comment, but let's face facts people...... a lounge / club that holds 200 people, means 300 are usually in and out of the door all night times 5 nights being open is 1,500 per week, times 52 weeks is 78,000 per year..... Even if 50% are repeat customers, and even if 50% of that 50% are cool good looking New Yorkers.....there are NOT that many cool / hip / good looking people in Manhattan in one place at one time (Maybe Rose Bar on Thursdays when it first opened) but not since......in the end it comes to a few tables with roughly 20-40 cool good looking stylish hipsters..... then everyone else with the attitude they are too cool for the place.... while they are taking photos of themselves and their friends so they can post it on facebook the next day.....

So just enjoy the place while you can, at the rate we are going lounges / clubs will burn out in 6 months.
