Double Dose of Avenue

A few Little Birdy's were at Avenue last night and dropped the following, juicy gossip.

  • i went last night, I saw all promoters, 0 bottles sold, and the bar was empty. not a good look for a new place. the question asked should be: what places are good now?
  • saw Matt Levine with Jeremy Piven at Avenue late night with a bunch of girls, no Eldridge?

Neither of them are that interesting, but we love that Mr. Mercury was hanging out with Mr. Lower East Side in the MePa, while another LB reported that the place was empty. Our heads are spinning.

this isn't newsworthy, although I am doing to the Eldridge tonight.

Somewhat surprising on the back of Tuesdays being perceived as a strong night at Avenue, no?

It will be rocking after labor day

September 2, 2009 at 03:49PM | Unregistered Commenterjohnnyboomers

a few promoters? it was all promoters. vegas, paul sevigny, some hipster kids, and a model promoter guy (forgot his name).

September 2, 2009 at 03:59PM | Unregistered Commenteravenue

i feel bad for the waitress, they probably made $10, hipsters dont tip and no bottles is a formula for a new staff

matt l is a failure in life.

September 2, 2009 at 04:27PM | Unregistered Commentereldrige street

matt was the best dressed guy at avenue.

September 2, 2009 at 05:32PM | Unregistered Commentersteelo

I was at avenue last Wednesday when someone bought like 30 bottles of Cristal at 3am - they were handing them out to everyone in the room. There are good nights and tough nights especially in a room as small as avenue that caters to such a select crowd. Ease up on it people, enjoy yourselves.

1 OAK RULES

September 2, 2009 at 05:48PM | Unregistered CommenterTHE King

You have to give Matt credit where credit is due, the Eldridge seems to be booming, and still a major hotspot. I go to the Eldridge, 1Oak, Rose Bar, that is it. I read about it, hear about it, and it seems to be a winning formula. Look at Citrine, Bijoux, Mr. West, Aphokete, Southside, RdV all opened last fall and are either out of business, barely surviving, or ran through promoters. With no promoters, Eldridge seems to be doing its thing. I might not be a Matt Levine fan, but I will give the kid credit.

September 2, 2009 at 06:34PM | Unregistered CommenterCredit

matt levine is a scumbag who tried to get press off the death of josh link. got back to the eldridge midget

September 2, 2009 at 06:35PM | Unregistered CommenterSophstcatedAlcoholic

@CREDIT... YOU ARE MATT LEVINE.
How did you know they dont use promoters?

September 2, 2009 at 07:30PM | Unregistered Commenterabc123

@abc123 i have never received an invitation from a promoter, never an email blast, and whenever i have been there, have not ran into the same douchebag promoters i see at every other venue in the city. if they use promoters, then i take it back, but have never seen one there.

Authorities have found eight undigested pills in the body of DJ AM, aka Adam Goldstein, leading some to say his death may have been a suicide and not accidental.

Eight OxyContin pills were found in Adam’s stomach and a ninth in his mouth. A source says Adam must have wanted to die as the prescribed painkillers were taken quickly and without thought:

“He wanted to die,” says the source, who says the suicide theory is supported by the pills and other evidence. “He was going unconscious when he took the last one. He didn’t even swallow it.”

Authorities on the scene also found a Valentine’s Day card from DJ AM’s ex, Haley Wood, sitting on top of his laptops on his coffee table. Upon entering his apartment, investigators found a mirror propped against the door leading to the spot where DJ AM’s body was found. A crack pipe was found beside him and authorities found cocaine underneath his body. It is believed that he smoked the cocaine first and later took his painkillers in an attempt to kill himself.

The official autopsy reports have not been released, and at this time, Adam’s death is said to be accidental.

Avenue made almost Half a Million in 3 days last week...Honestly...

Little Birdy's are always full of shit.....

September 2, 2009 at 08:13PM | Unregistered CommenterEat a Dick

thats crazy! half a mil? 3 days?

September 2, 2009 at 08:58PM | Unregistered Commentersucka

Ringing over a $160,000 per day is not possible for a bar that size and everything when bottles are being comped probably two out of those three days. Cause I really know! Makes for a hell of a story for people in the F&B world!

September 2, 2009 at 09:37PM | Unregistered CommenterHalf a million?

client spent 200K there one night last week. half a mil i am not so sure about

September 2, 2009 at 10:43PM | Unregistered Commentermaster p*lan

Rang over $160,000...

On 1 Customer........... CAUSE I REALLY REALLY KNOW...

September 2, 2009 at 10:43PM | Unregistered CommenterHonestly

I heard the customer who spent over 200K one night was there several times last week and nearly matched that number each time. So i do believe it's very possible that they made "almost Half-a-Million" within a few days.

September 2, 2009 at 11:14PM | Unregistered CommenterJackie Jack

I have been in this business most of my adult life. i have worked at various high end night spots. In all those years, days and nights 1 time have I witness someone spending that type of money. It was well publicized. PK and Mike Ashley, both Billionaires from England, spending that at Pink Elephant. The thought that someone would do that several nights in a row would be unprecidented. There is no way I would ever believe that without seeing it. Just to put in perspective it takes 200 bottles of Cristal to do that. The chances of a venue even having the product to do 600K in 3 nights is astounding to me.

September 3, 2009 at 12:03AM | Unregistered CommenterFor Real

they did same at marquee once that i saw and heard they do it all the time in vegas..was at pink as well that time they spend was it 256k ..def happened...ruined mike ashley's life with uk press so not all good for him - crowd in pink loved it as it was free drinks for everyone else all night.

September 3, 2009 at 12:21AM | Unregistered Commenterano

I was there Wed and Thurs last week. It is most definitely true. You should've seen it...truly unbelievable. Only Strategic could pull that off.

September 3, 2009 at 12:36AM | Unregistered CommenterHK

I heard that not only did the guy spend enough money to clear Sub Saharan Africa's IMF debt, but he also arrived in a Helicopter, left in a Harrier Jet and was driving a Hover Craft around Avenue.

leme guess, matt l was wearing a button down, sweater vest with a scarf...

September 3, 2009 at 09:38AM | Unregistered CommenterAdrock

1st. ONE guy spent 150k.
2nd. List of promoters working there CONSTANTLY; SKATER ERIC, MATT ASSANTE, RICARDO, MATT MIKE AND RYAN, Paul and the Beatrice crew on tuesdays and thursdays... If you idiots had any idea about who actually WORKS in the industry, maybe you would all realize that these guys all worked in Marquee for the last 4 years and will continue to work. How do you think that these model girls show up to these places? to look at Noah's bald sweaty head? Same idiot goes and pops off at Marquee and Avenue all the time, and they consistently get BENJI to spend 50k there. Bang for the buck, they do ring A LOT of money; but please don't insult people's intelligence by saying that there aren't promoters at Avenue, or any venue for that matter. Only place in that can lay claim to that WAS Rose Bar but that was three years ago (Nur and Frank Roberts as in house management was totally different then paying guys to bring models)... the rest use promoters... nuff said..

Avenue could be the biggest JOKE of NY... Andrew Goldberg should probably just kill himself... I mean how do you go about your day each day knowing your that big of a loser, and trust me he knows it... Avenue makes ZERO money, they NEVER sell bottles, if anyone accepts a minimum there that means they couldnt get in to 1oak and walked around the corner. I feel bad for Danny A , he is probably embarressed to be involved. ANY club where andrew goldberg and jon shwartz have even a tiny bit of involvement should not even open in the first place. Avenue is basically like a souped up version of the HILL...

September 3, 2009 at 10:25AM | Unregistered Commenteravenue is a joke

Anybody see that guy order two bottles of 9 litre PJ on ReHab Party at the Hard Rock? He claims he thought they were only 500 after his girl told the waitress to send em back. Bitches bettah ball.
