There used to be a time in New York when clubs didn't rely on websites and Twitter to attract customers. Hell, there used to be a time when clubs offered just a bit more than booze and dancing. The most famous of these was Plato's Retreat, Larry Levenson's swingers club that operated in the basement of the Ansonia Hotel on the Upper West Side. And while today's sex clubs shy away from the spotlight and Health Department (except for the ones who give interviews to the NY Times), Plato's actually advertised on television.
