In response to the Nightlife Preservation Committee's election plans:
why not position nyna to be the author -- and enforcer -- of a reasonable alternative that pro operators can live with? many of the clubs that are getting picked off, like avalon, deserve it. they either didn't have the money to do a pro job of it, or didn't care to. responsible operators, and clubgoers that are out to have a good time instead of dealing or fighting, are better off without them. 27th street, while a good concept, was executed poorly and served only to get everyone pissed off at the "nightlife industry." nyna could have had a role in preventing the "club mall" from becoming a shitshow but missed that opportunity. and it's hardly fair to criticize me for wanting to drop my suggestion in the box anonymously when the general counsel of nyna refuses to post under his own name.

The problem with NYNA is that the organization is only looking to protect one branch of nightlife which is ownership. The mainstays in the organization are all owners who have been very reluctant to incorporate promoters, bartenders, doorstaff, etc. You cannot protect a industry as a whole without including all branches of said industry. When there is a way for the industry as a whole to hold accountable those who are ruining the business then we can talk about having a true nightlife association. If the owners are the only ones with a voice, how does that serve the business as a whole?
the nightlife preservation community (npc) is absolutely gearing up to be inclusive of bar staff and other club employees. i agree with the comment above speaking for myself. i will raise these very comments at the next meeting and see if we can work something out. i dont like anonymous comments as i have repeatedly stated. i also assume rb to be robert bookman and i dont think he was trung to be anonymous but i dont speak for him. i think that when you look at any organization it must be considered that although there will be one public position there are many opinions and alternative concepts being discussed prior to that position being adopted. robert bookman speaks for the nyna. i speak for me. there are a lot of very bright people around the table at our meetings and ideas are always welcome.
