Uncle Steve Loves the Violence
We all know by now about Wass Steven's unfortunate incident with a rejected customer outside of Avenue on Tueday night, leading to Wass spending a night in the pokey. We all have our off nights now and again. But we love Uncle Stevie's reaction to the whole thing, saying "is there any doubt the guy deserved it? Is there any doubt that a line was crossed that a respectable man could not ignore? Shoot, I want to smack the dude myself because I know for a pro like my boy to cross that line, it was a matter of honor or a reaction to a threat or indeed self-defense." Lewis then proclaims "I won’t defend my man" before defending him, followed by "I don’t need to praise him", before praising him for his honesty, good looks, and suave wardrobe", and "talent. He lights up a screen." The only thing he didn't mention was his French Toast recipe, which is out of this world. Maybe he is saving that for Friday. We aren't going to pretend we were there or know what happened, but we never condone violence, in any situation. That's just us, though.

Looks like Marquee's crowd is already flocking to Avenue, good stuff.
Finally. That guys the biggest piece of shit I have ever encountered. I don't know what Steve Lewis is talking about because there is nothing kind and courteous about the way Wass Stevens runs his door. It seems to me that Steve Lewis just uses his nightlife blog to suck up to everyone in the industry so he is not forgotten about. Dude you're like 50 years old, get a real fucking job, and designing nightclus, in fact designing anything is a bitches job. Ian Schrager got a real job, why cant you?
Brett, I think your comments are a little over the top. I know Steve personally, and I find him to be one of the more interesting people I know. He is a true New Yorker, and he's lived decade after decade to the fullest here. He has worked with great people, operated the best clubs (the kind we don't have in New York anymore) and has designed some beautiful venues, hardly a "bitches" job. He doesn't try and be something he's not, or younger than he is for that matter. I've never seen him drunk or high, and he rarely stays out late. Perhaps, Brett, the reason he has alliances with certain people in the industry is because they pay him a retainer fee every month to keep him on board... Or maybe he's defending Wass because he was the face of Marquee, a club Steve designed! How many people pay you to be on their team tough guy? I don't think Steve needs to worry about being forgotten...
i am certainly not on marquee's, avenue or wass stevens payroll. i do own my own company with marc dizon and we do design venues. i think calling it a bitches job is kind of a 1903 ish attitude . jason thank you for your words. i get up everyday at 730 am and i go to sleep very often after 2am. i work very hard and have so my whole career . i am proud of some of my deeds and not so proud of others but i dont hide and do my best to stay true to my school. wass is my friend because he is the kind of person that i respect. he is working hard at his craft, acting, and takes his door job seriously. as the case is still pending only a little can be said about it and i think i said it in my article. i'd also like to thank dbth for being for the most part an honest voice. i sometimes disagree with what is said here but i respect the integrity of scott and company. i believe that sometimes and it is a rare sometime ,words can be insufficient. sometimes a punk needs to be bitch slapped... i know thats a very old like 1980's attitude but as you pointed out brett,,,i'm old
I don't know what to make of the fact that you think he hit the guy and that is okay when his lawyer says he didn't do it at all. Did Wass confess in one of his texts to you? Anyway strategic probably had Wass' interests at heart when they asked you not to comment. More attention brings more pressure on the DA to and SLA to make a symbolic blow against the nightlife industry, which they seem to love to do.
no wass didnt tell me anything in his texts about the incident.. i know him very well and i know what it would take for him to use violence.. no one at strategic asked me not to comment but people who worked there told me they were told not to. this is SOP in pending investigations. there were many people outside when the incident occurred .i'm sorry if i was unclear. in over 20 years hanging around the doors of nightclubs i threw a punch twice. once someone spit in a girls face next to me and i grabbed the guy and it got silly before security stepped up, the other time was when i was leaving spa on a weeknight and talking to my manager a woman and my head of security and i had my 2 personal security guards. a guy kept on making very vulgar statements to the manager and i asked him to stop several times . he then threatened and attempted to kick my chihuahua and i lost it. my punch didnt make it as my security lifted me up and carried me and my puppy (the most dangerous guy there btw) away from the incident. for wass to lose it and there is little doubt he lost his cool he must have had a great reason. he says no to a thousand punks every weekend for years without violence... the punk must have really hit a nerve...
Stevie, did you tell him how to get out of prison? You have experience with that.
Hey give "uncle Stevie" credit- he also knows how to get paid a HUGE retainer and then drive the club into chapter 11. just ask Scott sartiano what an honest, decent, tax loving human being he is...
don't understand the david boyd reference? don't know which club gave me a HUGE retainer and then went chapter 11? i have spoken to my friend scott sartiano 10x this week ?? and i did my time and got out? weird stuff by anonymous peeps. i'm open and dont hide behind aliases...
oh and is that you giovanni? if so ..hey !!!
what happened too the other guy ? was he arrested or take to hospital ? sorry don't know the full story ....would say this even if the guy is the worst of the worst and he takes u too the limit ..we all know its not worth it (after the fact) ....being said thats easier said then done on super rare occasion ...people lose it and its a shame ....and im sure all wish it never happened including the other guy ...
but i still say no violence ever ! Simple rule for all .
I'm gonna go out and just say it: Wass is a true class act as far as doormen in this city are concerned.... And I know some hater is going to pop out a reply in like 5 seconds saying that I must be on Wass's payroll or on his jock or whatever.... yada yada ya.
But the fact of the matter is that I've been going to clubs in this city since I was a wee lad of 18 (starting with Mars and Nells in 1989) and there is a real, if subtle difference (perhaps too subtle for some of you Johnny-come-lately B&T wannabes who like to pretend you'd know a real NY club if it bit you on the ass) between Wass and some of the other doormen (ahem, pricks) in this city. I'm sure the first few times I was up at Wass's door I had to wait ... heck, I might have even gotten dissed outright once or twice way way back. But here's the difference: Wass actually does have enough heart to recognize who's being sincere and who isn't, who really wants to bring a sense of style to the party, i.e., would be interesting to be around, and who's simply some moneyed asshole who feels entitled. I actually remember one of the first times I rolled by Suite 16. Didn't come with a model, so had to wait for about 15 minutes. But after I had shown I really wanted in (without being obnoxious) he gave a wink and let me in. Got that, people? Wass actually does have a soft side. A lot of you may disagree, but I don't think Wass ia a mean-spirited person. To the contrary, I think he's being honest when he says he doesn't actually relish saying "no" to people. Contrast that with some of the other douchebags in the industry who you just KNOW are getting their rocks off every time they get to stop someone at the velvet ropes and go on their little power trip. Anyway, ever since then Wass has always parted the ropes for me at any of the places he's been at since then (regardless of whether I'm with a model or not), and I actually enjoy seeing him at the door, chatting, saying whassup and that sort of thing. I for one am happy that his acting career is blossoming.
So am I in Wass's corner because he was "cool" to me. Yeah, I guess so. But that's saying something about the guy, in my book. He didn't have to let me in back in my early days, (coz back then I wasn't the superstar with the fly b*tches that I am now) but I think he did so because frankly, he's got a lot more character and, dare one say it, empathy, or at least perceptiveness, than A LOT (if not ALL) of the other doormen in the city. I don't know what happened on that one single night with the kid who claims he was beaten up, but I hope everything works out for Wass. Believe it or not, he's a decent, talented, intelligent person who deserves a lot more respect than some of you might imagine. Unless that kid was seriously injured (which he doesn't seem to have been), Wass certainly doesn't deserve to have this nonsense hanging over his head.
What the hell are you talking about gomer.
So you are saying, he has failed at every other endeavor outside of working a "door"
me think doth protest to much.
And poor steve- if he only knew what the "boy's" said behind his back....
